Mark joined the 1MM team in early 2023 as a safeguarding consultant. He has a Law Degree, a Certificate in Education (Adult and Further Education) and a degree in Professional Studies in Education, all from Manchester Metropolitan University.

His interest in safeguarding developed during his 34 years in the police service. Mark has worked in a variety of policing environments both in uniform and as a Detective. He has trained police officers in investigative skills and interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses including the interviewing of child and other vulnerable and significant witnesses.

Mark has managed locally based CID units and specialist safeguarding and child protection units. He has also been in charge of a number of serious and high-profile investigations as a senior investigating officer or SIO. He has developed policy and procedural guidance on a range of safeguarding topics including risks from both within and outside the family, domestic abuse, honour based abuse and human trafficking.

After his career in policing, Mark developed his safeguarding experience working for a Local Safeguarding Children Board as a multi-agency safeguarding trainer and a short period as the Board Business Manager. He has trained over 10,000 professionals in various aspects of safeguarding and has been involved in safeguarding audits and reviews including Serious Case Reviews, Safeguarding Adults Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews.
