How it works

1MM Mentoring Invitation

Whether you sign yourself up independently for mentoring or are offered the chance to do so through a scheme set up with us by your university, college, foundation, employer etc ...You need to register on our platform and complete your profile information.

We use this information to find you a mentor who should be a great fit for you… someone who’s told us they have experience and expertise in the areas you want support in.

  • Our mentors come from the community and businesses, and from a very wide range of backgrounds. They bring a whole range of professional and life experiences with them. And all of them have real world knowledge and experience they want to share.
  • You are strongly encouraged to complete our online training - to help you understand more about what mentoring is and how to get the most out of it – and we ask you to complete a pre-mentoring survey to help us (and you!) measure the progress you have made.
  • After we’ve connected you by email/on our platform, you and your mentor arrange your first meeting together.
  • You’ll then usually meet once a month for about an hour, for up to a year.
1MM Mentoring Invitation
  • If you are participating through a scheme arranged with us by your university, college, foundation, employer etc they may have a schedule of meetings they expect you to follow, but there is usually some flexibility.
  • If you have signed yourself up independently then how you arrange your regular meetings is up to you and your mentor - some people choose to create a schedule, others sort the date for their next meeting at the end of each session.
  • Most mentoring relationships with 18+ mentees are conducted completely or mainly online. Your mentor may well be in a very different part of the country to you but, if proximity allows and you both agree, you can of course also meet face to face.
  • After your last 1MM session you and your mentor decide if you wish to carry on, on an informal basis, and complete our post-programme surveys.

Throughout mentoring, I was able to increase my confidence. I volunteered in the environmental sector and am now involved with the Wildlife Trust Gwent. I am also a member of the youth council for the Woodland Trust. I’m really grateful for the time I had with my mentor.
