Kaydon’s story

Mentee

Kaydon’s story

“I’m Kaydon Parsons. I’m in year 10 at Cardiff West Community High School. I am looking forward to my GCSEs as I know it will benefit me in later life. However, I’m not sure if I’m up to do the work required because it can be very tiring trying to handle that and other things at home.”

Why did you choose to take part in 1MM's mentoring programme?

I thought it would be a great opportunity to help me learn more about what I want to do in the future. I would know what I wanted to do instead of just having predictions for the future. There may be a certain skill I may have to develop to get the certain job I want. It would be good to know about that beforehand, instead of finding out the hard way later.

What do you think the main benefit of mentoring has been for you?

The only thing I could think of before November is my trouble with being able to speak in front of a crowd - I found it really scary at the time, but after my time with my mentor, I have learned to keep confident and stay calm during a conversation with a large crowd of people.

What was the best thing about Mentoring?

The best thing is him giving me confidence in my ability to speak because, like I said before, I can’t speak in front of anyone. I was terrified, but after my sessions with James, my confidence in speaking in public has increased.

Kayden’s final thoughts on his 1MM experience...

I think it was a great opportunity and other people should consider taking it up. I guess you could consider it a rare opportunity and it’s worth it.
