Hi, my name is Ash Khan, a professional in the field of Senior Management, specialising in Legal Tech, I work for a Global Law Firm, ‘Mayer Brown’. I’ve built my career within the legal tech sector and live/grew up in North-West London. Throughout my professional journey, I’ve been fortunate to have remarkable mentors who not only acted as sponsors but also imparted invaluable wisdom and guidance. This is a significant reason why I am deeply passionate about mentoring.
Why did you choose to take part in 1MM’s mentoring programme?
At Mayer Brown, we are deeply committed to fostering Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and mentoring. We take great pride in being associated with 1MM, who shares our passion for positively impacting the lives of young people. Personally, my motivation to mentor is all about making a positive mark and being part of someone else’s success story. That incredible feeling when someone you’ve been guiding. I’ve been super fortunate to have some fantastic mentors throughout my career.
Why did you think mentoring is so beneficial?
Mentoring is a win-win endeavour for Firms, It fosters a culture of learning, strengthens engagement, and allows us to make a meaningful impact on our communities. From my experience , mentoring provides an opportunity for professional growth and personal satisfaction. In a world where businesses are increasingly being judged by more than just their bottom line, I believe mentoring is a powerful tool for demonstrating your Firm’s commitment to making a positive difference. I would strongly endorse 1MM whom are committed to make a real difference.
What have you learnt from being a mentor?
Believe me, you learn so much about yourself ! Being a mentor has provided me with valuable insights into the dynamics of teaching and guiding others. Through this experience, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the importance of active listening, clear communication, and patience. I’ve learned that effective mentoring isn’t just about imparting knowledge but also about understanding the unique needs and challenges of each individual I’m assisting. This experience is invaluable for a mentor. We can never stop learning.
